Mahatma Gandhi University has recognised the department as a centre for Ph.D programme in physiology, especially in the fields of visual physiology, haematology and biochemical aspects of physiology. The centre has undertaken a number of research projects in neurophysiology of vision, nutrition and cardiovascular physiology. Regular CMEs and Recognised Research Centre of Mahatma Gandhi University for Ph.D. in Visual Physiology symposia are a feature of this centre and one of the major events it has conducted is the 4th World Congress on Clinical Nutrition in 1993 at Kochi. The centre observes Brain Awareness Week during March every year.

Training Programs

The National Board has recognised the hospital for imparting training to DNB candidates in opthalmology, General Medicine, General Surgery, Family Medicine and Orthopaedics. Our opthalmology department offers fellowship programmes in retina and anterior segment and training programmes in IOL ( in collabration with WHO and the Central Government ) and SICS.

Teaching Programs

Regular clinic meetings and journal clubs on Tuesdays and Tuesdays and seminars on Wednesdays and Fridays (Opthalmology), Lectures on anatomy and physiology by visiting professors and monthly clinical meetings and CMEs lead by senior doctors in the hospital and from outside.
