Little Flower Hospital Trust has a history of seven decades of service. It was started on 9th Feb 1936 as a small dispensary with one doctor, one compounder , a nurse cum mid wife and a ward boy. At that time the inhabitance of Angamaly was struggling to have some facility for medical aid even at times of extreme necessity. When all the other attempts failed they appealed to the Archbishop of Ernakulam and he asked the parish priest of Angamaly to start a dispencery under the auspices of the Archdiocese. This fact is of at most importance regarding the conducting of the hospital. It was started because of the felt need from the part of the people and not as a profit making concern. This aspect is being respected throughout. Even when it grew into a hospital with 800 beds, and 22 departments, some of them of global reputation, the need of the people were given priority. Hence the Archdiocese of Ernakulam felt that the hospital should be registered as a charitable Trust and it was so registered in the year 1994. Taking it as a God given mission, reverent Fathers , Nuns and lay people committed themselves to make Little Flower Hospital a big institution to meet the needs of the people. Free or subsidized treatment was always made available from the funds generated by the institutions and received as donations from generous people and organizations.

The hospital grew from the small dispensary into a multispecialty hospital gradually, by adding departments, infrastructure, beds, doctors, nurses and other staff. The following departments are functioning today in the Hospital, Medicine, surgery, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Anesthesia, Hematology, Dental, ENT, Dermatology, Cardiology, Neurology, O&G, Snake Bite Unit, Nephrology, Urology, Psychiatry etc.

We are today supplying the excess of eye donations to All India Medical Institute, Delhi. We also have a full-fledged Blood Bank.

Two Lakh each for giving free spectacles to school children. The department is conducting awareness programs in rural areas to make people understand that there is no need to go around blind when there are possibilities to regain eyesight and warn them to take precautions against causes leading to loss of eye sight.
